A l&rsquo;image de Saint-Gingolph, cette cit\u00e9 est coup\u00e9e en deux avec une partie suisse sur la rive gauche du Rhin et la partie allemande sur la rive droite. Rodolphe II de Habsbourg est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme le fondateur de la ville. Rodolphe II donc l&#8217;empereur du Saint-Empire qui a sa mort en 1232 am\u00e8nera trois communaut\u00e9s alpestres \u00e0 r\u00e9diger un pacte\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La s\u00e9paration politique en deux du village n&rsquo;intervient elle qu&rsquo;en 1802. La faute \u00e0 Napol\u00e9on et au trait\u00e9 de Luneville qui \u00e9tablit d\u00e9sormais que la rive gauche de Zurzach \u00e0 B\u00e2le revient \u00e0 la Suisse et la rive droite a l&rsquo;Allemagne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Article II<br>La cession des ci-devant provinces belgiques \u00e0 la R\u00e9publique fran\u00e7aise, stipul\u00e9e par l&rsquo;article III du trait\u00e9 de Campo-Formio, est renouvel\u00e9e ici de la mani\u00e8re la plus formelle, en sorte que Sadite Majest\u00e9 Imp\u00e9riale et Royale, pour elle et ses successeurs, tant en son nom qu&rsquo;au nom de l&rsquo;Empire germanique, renonce \u00e0 tous les droits et titres aux susdites provinces, lesquelles seront poss\u00e9d\u00e9es \u00e0 perp\u00e9tuit\u00e9, en toute souverainet\u00e9 et propri\u00e9t\u00e9, par la R\u00e9publique fran\u00e7aise, avec tous les biens territoriaux qui en d\u00e9pendent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sont pareillement c\u00e9d\u00e9s \u00e0 la R\u00e9publique fran\u00e7aise, par Sadite Majest\u00e9 Imp\u00e9riale et Royale et du consentement formel de l&rsquo;Empire :<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>1 &#8211; Le Comt\u00e9 de Falkenstein, avec ses d\u00e9pendances ;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2 &#8211; Le Fricktal et tout ce qui appartient \u00e0 la Maison d&rsquo;Autriche sur la rive gauche du Rhin, entre Zurzach et B\u00e2le ; la R\u00e9publique fran\u00e7aise se r\u00e9servant de c\u00e9der ce dernier pays \u00e0 la R\u00e9publique helv\u00e9tique.<br>Source : <a href=\"https:\/\/fr.m.wikisource.org\/wiki\/Trait\u00e9_de_Lun\u00e9ville\">https:\/\/fr.m.wikisource.org\/wiki\/Trait\u00e9_de_Lun\u00e9ville<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Au niveau religieux, Le deux Laufenburg ont toujours \u00e9t\u00e9 s\u00e9par\u00e9s puisque la fronti\u00e8re entre les dioc\u00e8ses de B\u00e2le et de Constance passait par le Rhin. En 1910, lors de la construction de la centrale \u00e9lectrique, il fut remplac\u00e9 par un ouvrage en b\u00e9ton de Robert Maillart. Un autre pont, situ\u00e9 \u00e0 environ mille m\u00e8tres en amont, fut inaugur\u00e9 en 2004.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c9conomiquement, la ville se d\u00e9veloppa gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 des ressources diversifi\u00e9es: commerce de transit, march\u00e9, traitement du fer extrait des mines du Fricktal entre le XIIIe et le XVIIIe s. (fonderies et forges). Mais la principale source de revenus provenait du transport de marchandises sur le Rhin. Laufenburg \u00e9tait aussi consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme le plus important lieu de p\u00eache au saumon sur le Rhin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>L&rsquo;am\u00e9lioration des routes et l&rsquo;arriv\u00e9e du chemin de fer modifie la donne et conduit au d\u00e9clin \u00e9conomique de la cit\u00e9.
