A l&rsquo;interview pour <em>Histoire &amp; Images M\u00e9di\u00e9vales,\u00a0<\/em>Yohann Chanoir, doctorant \u00e0 l\u2019EHESS et sp\u00e9cialiste du cin\u00e9ma m\u00e9di\u00e9valiste, explique en quoi ce long-m\u00e9trage est plus complexe qu\u2019il n\u2019y para\u00eet et de quelle mani\u00e8re aucun film n&rsquo;\u00e9chappe \u00e0 son \u00e9poque de r\u00e9alisation. Le Moyen \u00c2ge est plastique, au sens o\u00f9 il se pr\u00eate \u00e0 toutes les instrumentalisations. Le patron de la MGM, lui, avait refus\u00e9, de t\u00e9moigner. Une des sc\u00e9naristes Marguerite Roberts, a vu son nom retirer du g\u00e9n\u00e9rique, pour avoir refus\u00e9 de t\u00e9moigner devant\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/fr.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/House_Un-American_Activities_Committee\" target=\"_blank\">l\u2019HCUA (Commission de la Chambre sur les activit\u00e9s non-am\u00e9ricaines. Ndr)<\/a>. Cette fracture au sein de l\u2019\u00e9quipe du film explique sans doute la tension de cette sc\u00e8ne, dont l\u2019enjeu d\u00e9passe nettement le sort de Rebecca. Elle d\u00e9nonce le d\u00e9tournement de la justice, l\u2019emploi de bouc-\u00e9missaire mais aussi la palinodie du peuple (rassembl\u00e9 au fond de la grand-salle). L\u2019allusion est donc extr\u00eamement forte, claire et percutante. Le Maccarthysme n\u2019a pas tu\u00e9 la capacit\u00e9 d\u2019Hollywood \u00e0 s\u2019inscrire dans un contexte politique.\u00a0<em>Ivanho\u00e9<\/em>, en ce sens, est le digne h\u00e9ritier de\u00a0<em>Robin des Bois<\/em>\u00a0(<em>Les Aventures de Robin des Boi<\/em>s, 1938), exaltation de la d\u00e9mocratie am\u00e9ricaine et du New Deal.
